Our Values

Human Connection

We live in an increasingly distant world. While we have greater access to communication than ever, many are left feeling disconnected from themselves and from others. A life without authentic, vulnerable, human connection is often a life without meaning. Therapy is a unique opportunity to foster this experience of connection, but certain frameworks of therapy end up exacerbating the issue and worsen one’s feelings about themself. This can happen when the human nature of therapy is obscured - perhaps through the therapist assuming knowledge they don’t have, or through over-pathologization of issues. Therapy at Pomegranate embodies a genuine human relationship. We do have a unique role and responsibility as therapists, but we are also deeply human, the same as you. There is no “healed” and “wounded”, just two equals bringing individual strengths to work on difficult issues together.

Curiosity

We operate from the assumption that we have much to learn from every person we work with. We do bring expertise into the relationship and have gained knowledge from our training, but that is only part of the collaboration of a therapeutic relationship. A good therapist continues learning and can grow from mistakes throughout their practice. To do this, we must be endlessly curious in the conversations that we have and in expanding our knowledge outside of the therapy room.

Compassion

Compassion is a practice and a belief system. The practice of compassion involves the choice to look at situations with understanding rather than judgment or shame. It is also the recognition of our shared humanity. We all suffer, struggle, make mistakes, hurt others, etc. However, we also believe that we all can strive to grow from that common humanity. Just as we all suffer, we also all love, search for meaning, and grow.

Our vision is to cultivate an environment where people can discover and embrace the most expansive and liberated version of themselves.
